DALLAS – Name partner Richard R. Orsinger of the Family Law firm Orsinger, Nelson, Downing & Anderson, L.L.P., has been selected as the 2013-2014 recipient of the Texas Center for the Judiciary’s Exemplary Non-Judicial Faculty Award.
The award was presented to Mr. Orsinger in recognition of his “contribution to judicial excellence through education” and for his “personal commitment to preparing and presenting a course of study” while serving as a faculty member of the Texas Center for the Judiciary.
With dual certification in both Family Law and Civil Appellate Law from the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, Mr. Orsinger has offered a unique perspective on Family Law issues to the judges attending the judicial conferences conducted by the Texas Center for the Judiciary.
Last year, Mr. Orsinger’s presentation on “Family Law Update for 2013,” slated for the San Antonio judicial conference, was canceled due to a perceived bomb threat at the hotel. Mr. Orsinger instead went to the Center’s headquarters in Austin and recorded his presentation for distribution on the Internet. The topics ranged from a detailed analysis of significant changes in the law made by the 83rd Texas Legislature to recent family law decisions by the Texas Courts of Appeals and Supreme Court of Texas. Mr. Orsinger also gave presentations at later judicial conferences on the topics of “Mediated Settlement Agreements” and “Same-Sex Marriage.” Most recently, he gave a presentation to the judicial conference on grandparent standing to initiate and intervene in child custody proceedings.
“I was honored to receive this recognition for my contributions to continuing legal education for the judiciary. The Texas Center for the Judiciary fills a critical role in helping provide judges throughout this state with relevant legal updates so that they are able to issue the best rulings possible,” says Mr. Orsinger. “I have always considered it a privilege to be asked to help in these timely educational efforts.”
